COLUMBUS, Ind. — A police chase ended Monday night with the arrests of two people after their vehicle crashed into a parked car in East Columbus.

Michael Thomas Wear, 29, and Rebecca S. Smith, 20, both of Columbus, were arrested on a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement. Wear also was charged preliminarily with criminal recklessness with a vehicle and was wanted on a warrant.

The chase began at about 10 p.m. Monday when Columbus Police Patrolman John Thompson tried to pull over a vehicle near the Clifty Park skate park for suspicious activity.

The vehicle drove away and ran through stop signs at the intersection of Marr Road and McKinley Avenue before crashing into a parked car at Kentucky Avenue and Wehmeier Street, said Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department.

Wear, who police said was driving the vehicle, and Smith surrendered after the crash and were taken to Columbus Regional Hospital with minor injuries. They later were released and booked into the Bartholomew County Jail.
