The suspect in a robbery at the west side Walmart has been identified as Balagoon Sankofa, 49. He is described as a black male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 190 lbs. He also goes by Harold Bishop, Zimbabwe Sancoffe and Larry Lane.
Columbus Police officers were called to the Walmart store shortly before 3 p.m. Monday on a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred in the parking lot. The suspect, Balagoon Sankofa, allegedly approached the victim and displayed a handgun while demanding the high-powered rifle and ammunition the victim had just purchased from the store, according to the Columbus Police Department.
The victim cooperated with the demands and the suspect then fled the area in dark colored, 4-door, sedan, which police said is possibly a Mazda 6. After reviewing store surveillance camera footage, interviewing witnesses and consulting with other law enforcement agencies in the area, a tentative identification has been made of the alleged robber.
Law enforcement is requesting anyone with knowledge of Sankofa’s whereabouts to contact police immediately. Police are warning citizens not to approach Sankofa as he is considered armed and dangerous. Calls can be directed to Det. Sgt. Tom Foust at 812-376-2642 at the Columbus Police Department or call the Indianapolis Police Department.
Sankofa also is suspected to be involved in a shooting of four people in Indianapolis over the weekend, one of which has died.
