WALDRON — The Edinburgh girls basketball team got off to slow starts in the first and third quarters, and that eventually cost the Lancers in a 49-42 loss at Waldron on Monday night.

Edinburgh dropped to 4-13 on the season despite 13 points from Jennifer Stinson, 11 from Maile Cox and eight from Autumne Burton.

Waldron raced out to a 9-3 lead in the opening quarter before the Mohawks rallied in the second quarter to cut the lead to 21-18 at intermission.

Then in the third quarter, the Lancers were sluggish again, this time getting outscored 12-8 as Waldron built a 33-26 lead going into the final quarter, which was dead even at 16-16.

The Lancers lost the game despite winning the rebounding battle 43-23. Stinson led Edinburgh with 19 rebounds, while Cox had eight.

Edinburgh was forced into 24 turnovers.
