Follow The Republic:

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A power outage in downtown Columbus was caused by a large tree falling through a power line, said Chip Orben, spokesman for Duke Energy.

The tree fell into the line about two blocks north of Central Middle School, he added.

The power went out about 10:10 a.m., but was restored within 30 minutes.

About 550 Duke customers were afected by the outage, Orben said.

Multiple transformers failed at Eighth and Reed streets, said Lt. Matt Myers, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department.
