Purdue will play its first College Basketball Invitational game in school history when its hosts Western Illinois at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A Boilermakers victory would set up another home game, this time a CBI quarterfinal matchup against the winner of the first-round game between Santa Clara and Vermont.

Purdue, which has a 15-17 overall record, was the second-best rebounding team in the Big Ten with an average of 39.3 a game, which was 5.3 more than opponents. The Boilermakers lost 57-55 to Nebraska in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Western Illinois, which is 22-8 and went 13-3 in the Summit League, is coached by Jim Molinari. Western Illinois holds opponents to 52.7 points a game and less than 40 percent shooting from the floor.

Purdue is 4-0 in its series against Western Illinois and never has lost to a Summit League team, going 12-0.
