RV business to reinforce roof following collapse

Follow The Republic:

An Edinburgh business plans to build a stronger roof after the weight 50 inches of snow caused it to collapse during the snow storm.

About 11 inches of snow fell in the southern part of Johnson County on Dec. 26, but wind blew more snow onto the roof of two service bays at Edmundson RV Sales and caused the roof to buckle under the weight, general manager Rudy Hampton said.

Three RVs and two cars that were in the service bays were damaged. Multiple water and gas lines also ruptured when the roof collapsed, Hampton said. No one was in the building, at 14501 U.S. 31 North, at the time.

Utility workers repaired leaks in the water and gas lines the day the damage was caused, and the roof will be repaired by next week. He said he is unsure how much the repairs to the damaged vehicles and the roof will cost, but the business will make sure to put extra support under the roof so it does not collapse again.

Edmundson RV Sales will remain open for business during repairs, Hampton said. The business has sold and repaired RVs, trailers and campers in Edinburgh for 17 years, he said.
