Republic wins advertising awards

Eleven members of The Republic's advertising department came home with 22 awards from the 2012 Advertising Conference and Awards Gala, held recently and sponsored by the Hoosier State Press Association and the Indiana Newspaper Advertising Executives Association.

Two members of the department's creative team won top individual awards in the contest. Designer Jenna Clossin, who has been with The Republic for four years, was named the creative advertising designer of the year, an open-class award. Ben Hill, the Republic's graphic design supervisor, earned second place. He has been with The Republic for seven years.

In another open-class award, Clossin and sales representative Kevin Wynne earned third place for best use of creative graphics in an advertisement for The Garage Pub & Grill.

The Republic competed in the contest's category of newspapers with 15,000 or more paid circulation. Category awards are as follows.

Special Section (Inserted): First place, creative staff and sales staff, Connected by Cancer.

Event Marketing: First place, designer Stephanie Otte and Advertising Operations Manager Kathy Burnett, 2012 Home and Garden Show; second place, sales staff and Burnett, She Goes Out Pamper Party; third place, Hill and Burnett, The Pamper Party.

Professional Services Ad: First place, designer Josh Meyer and sales representative Cathy Klaes, Integrated Services LLC; third place, New Business Development Manager Jan Hoffman-Perry and creative staff, Myers Funeral Service.

Education, Churches and Nonprofits ad: First place, Otte and sales representative Scott Begley, Bartholomew County Right to Life.

Food and Drug Ad: First place, Clossin and Wynne, The Garage Pub and Grill; third place, designer Tonya Cassidy and sales representative Katie Harmon, Icing on the Cake.

Political Ad: First place, Cassidy and Harmon, Larry S. Fisher campaign for coroner; second place, Otte and Hoffman-Perry, Ryan Brand campaign for City Council.

Medical Ad: Second place, Hill and Klaes, Doctors Park Family Medicine.

Entertainment and Lifestyles Ad: Second place, Otte and Begley, Bartholomew County 4-H Fair.

Think Outside the Box Ad: Second place, Hill and Wynne, Jordan Ellison Jewelers & Estate Buyers.

Fashion and Personal Care Ad: Third place, Otte and Wynne, Jordan Ellison Jewelers & Estate Buyers.

Multiple Advertiser With a Common Theme Ad: Third place, Meyer and sales staff, Bartholomew County 4-H Fair.

House and Member Self Promotion: Third place, Hill and Burnett, "Print is Powerful" campaign.

Online Display Ad: Second place, Hoffman-Perry and creative staff, "Weather Alert."

Run of Paper Advertising Series or Campaign: Third place, Otte and Wynne, Jordan Ellison Jewelers & Estate Buyers.
