HOPE — New curb ramps along Main Street in Hope are just the first of many changes motorists can expect along State Road 9 in northeast Bartholomew County over the next three years.
After conducting field tests last winter, road crews began patching potholes in late March along the highway north of East 25th Street, said Harry Maginity, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
Work began in April on installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant concrete curb ramps in the town. Once all the ramps are installed, crews will begin milling and resurfacing State Road 9 from East 25th Street north to the Shelby County line, Maginity said.
The 8.5-mile project is being handled by Dave O'Mara Contractor, Inc. of North Vernon, which was awarded the $658,000 contract last fall.
