Someone asked me how the training is going, and I told them to ask me again in a week.
I’m feeling really sore because of vacationing in New Orleans for six days.
I was not taking my training as seriously as I should have, and the most I did was three miles while I was there. The most cross-training I did was 30 minutes of kickboxing.
I had thought because school’s starting soon and I’m on vacation, I should be able to relax.
The 9-mile run Sunday morning really hurt me. As painful as it was, it was a confidence boost. Even if I’m in pain, I can still do it.
I’m lucky I vacationed the week where the miles dropped backward, and I think I’ll feel ready since I have the whole week to get my endurance back up and prepare.
The training I did fit in was rough, considering the humidity and the extra “fuel” I was feeding my body.
I took water with me, and running along the water helped a little bit, but it was hot. I eventually had to leave the water and run along the tall buildings so I could be in the shade. There were tons of people running and enjoying the view, so I felt very safe.
Monday: Rest day, but with a lot of walking
Tuesday: Run 3 miles
Wednesday: Cardio kickboxing and Kenpo X video
Thursday: Run 2 miles
Friday: Cardio kickboxing and ab workout
Saturday: Rest day
Sunday: Long, 9-mile run
The food was delicious, don’t get me wrong, but my stomach did not do so well. I’m pretty sure I got food poisoning. I felt kind of sluggish from all the food, but I’m only in New Orleans once. I’d probably do it all again.
Maybe I just psyched myself out with the long run on Sunday, but it was painful. I was moving slow and my knees started hurting and that hasn’t happened before.
I’m hoping just getting back into the swing of things this week and being at home and back in the routine will help.
Glyn Price, my friend and running mentor, is out of town for a short time, so whatever I do will be on my own. It will be a test of pushing myself without someone else weighing in on my training.
I am a little hesitant, but I’m sure I will be ready.
