Jennings County seniors are feeling the pressure of upcoming scholarship deadlines and making plans for the fall. Most scholarship applications are due by 4 p.m. April 1.
Students who go to jchs.jcsc.org can find applications and information for both local scholarships and ones for individual colleges.
IUPUI, Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College all have scholarships to award to deserving students. Indiana University has the 21st Century Scholars.
IUPUI’s criteria is for incoming freshmen with a cumulative high school GPA of 3.75 and a minimum ACT composite score of 28 or SAT score of 1,250 or higher (SAT critical reading and math scores combined).
Ivy Tech is giving away a $1,000 scholarship for students attending the fall term. Applications for those are due Monday.
If students don’t plan to attend any of those schools, they can check out the list of local scholarships, too.
The Jennings County High School website also offers a list of national scholarships and applications.
Most of the scholarships require a specific GPA, academic path or community service. However, there are scholarships based on how long you’ve lived in Jennings County or whether your family attended Jennings High, and some are even based on extracurricular activities.
Now is the time for seniors to start filling out these application if they haven’t already started.

Deadlines are coming up quickly for this school year. The Free Application for Student Financial Aid is due Monday, and all local scholarships are due April 1.
