The spoils of completing an undefeated season and winning a Class 4A state football championship will lead to the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. honoring the 15-0 Columbus East Olympians at tonight’s regular school board meeting.
A special presentation will take place shortly after the 7 p.m. meeting convenes at Columbus East High School.
Columbus East won the state title with a 28-27 victory against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on Nov. 30 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. It was the second state crown for the Olympians, having won the 3A football title in 1979.
The school board also will tackle some academic and financial business at tonight’s meeting.
On the agenda is a proposal to increase the school district’s transportation budget by $300,000 to fund midday bus transportation for pre-kindergarten students and to pay for other routes serving students who attend after-school programs through late afternoon. Costs will be covered by various grants, Superintendent John Quick said.
The board also will consider hiring an assistant principal to split time between Parkside and Taylorsville elementary schools. The position is targeted to start Jan. 6, Quick said.
Don't settle for a preview.
