COLUMBUS, Ind. — School officials said Tuesday they rely on other agencies to release information about emergencies at the schools, such as last week’s lockdown, and do not directly alert parents or the community.
If an emergency situation prompts an investigation by an outside agency, such as the police department, the school district will depend on that agency to release information, usually through the media, said Larry Perkinson, student assistance coordinator for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.
The district has no plans to update parents about the lockdown on Friday, which stemmed from a report of a student allegedly having a gun at Columbus North High School, he said.
