An Indianapolis man in a kayak was the subject of a water search-and-rescue effort Saturday evening in northern Bartholomew County.
Robert Baker, 26, was part of a group that was boating down the Driftwood River from Blue’s Canoe Livery near Edinburgh, said Bartholomew County Deputy Sheriff Maj. Todd Noblitt.
The county’s water-and-rescue team was called out shortly before 8 p.m. after friends reported Baker and his kayak had not been seen for almost three hours, Noblitt said.
However, team members quickly found the uninjured Baker making his way back to his friends. He told searchers he had earlier taken his kayak to shore and fallen asleep, Noblitt said.
Rescuers escorted Baker back to Blue’s Canoe before leaving the area, Noblitt said.
