The Mill Race Center Senior Expo will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9.
Theme of the event is “Senior Expo: Follow the Yellow Brick Broad to Wellness.” About 30 exhibitors will offer information about products, resources and services for those age 50 and older.
There will be booths with information about making smoothies and the benefits of using a sauna and a performance by Justin the Artistic Horse, said Mill Race Center Development Coordinator Paula Herlitz.
Those at the event will have access to information about health care, senior housing, municipal services, recreation, technology and entertainment.
Herlitz said this is the first senior expo at the new senior center at 900 Lindsey St.
The recipient of the the Joan Pearcy Senior Citizen of the Year Award will be announced at the expo at 8:30 a.m.
The award was named for Pearcy in 2011, honoring her involvement and support of Mill Race Center.
Pearcy was one of the most active members at the senior center before her death in 2011, Herlitz said.
“Joan was a volunteer that really understood our mission,” she said. “She helped on all different levels and was very instrumental on the capital campaign.”
