WESTPORT, Ind. — Seven people were injured late Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash in southwestern Decatur County.
Lawrence Warren, 32, of Osgood, was driving a sport-utility vehicle southbound on County Road 600W at 8:34 p.m. Wednesday when he failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the Decatur County Sheriff's Department.
Warren's SUV collided with a SUV driven by Vanessa Gatewood, 40, of Westport, forcing Gatewood's vehicle off the road through a utility pole.
A total of seven people from both vehicles ranging in age from 6 months to 40 years were injured, requiring ambulances from Jennings County and Columbus Regional Hospital to assist Decatur County EMS in transporting the injured to the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. A LifeLine helicopter also was requested but unable to respond because of weather restrictions.
All participants in the crash were treated and released following evaluation, according to the sheriff's department.
Four of the seven passengers in Warren's vehicle were younger than 8 and were restrained in child seats or with seat belts. They were not injured, the sheriff's department said.
The crash is being investigated by Decatur County Sheriff's Deputy Steve Snyder.
