One of the first things I learned about Bartholomew County history was that we became a county in 1821. The way to remember that is you can vote at age 18 and you can legally drink adult beverages at age 21.
I’ve never forgotten that date after having it explained to me in that way.
What do you know about the history of Columbus or Bartholomew County? We have a history that’s rich with stories of businesses, inventions and the lives of the people who created them.
On Sept. 13 and 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, the Bartholomew County Public Library invites you to “159 Years of Bartholomew County History.”
The title comes from the display created by Jim Loesch featuring 159 consecutively dated artifacts, from 1854 to 2013, of Bartholomew County history.
Learn about our local history by seeing a diverse and unique sampling of memorabilia. Meet individuals and local organizations that have a passion for preserving our heritage. See collections normally not seen by the public except by special arrangement. Displays will be located throughout the library and on the Plaza.
“159 Years of Bartholomew County History” participants are:
Twenty individuals and groups will share samplings of their collections of what made Columbus and Bartholomew County the distinctive community we know today.
As an added bonus, there will be two $25 gift certificates to Zaharako’s given away, one each day of the show. Winners need to be present to win.
If you get hungry and need a tasty snack, pizza can be purchased on the Plaza from the Flatrock Flatbread Co.
