Soil & water districts plans Arbor Day tree giveaway

Follow The Republic:

Bartholomew County Soil and Water Conservation District will have its third annual tree giveaway at 5 p.m. April 25, which is Arbor Day.

About 1,500 trees will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the district offices, 1040 Second St. There is a limit of five trees per person.

Available trees include red oak, redbud, flowering dogwood, Norway spruce and walnut.

Kids who attend the event can make pine cone bird feeders.

During the giveaway, the district is asking for new or gently used toys to donate to the Columbus Firefighter’s Cheer Fund. A donation is not required to receive a tree, but is appreciated.

Books, stuffed animals, bicycles, toys, baby items, games and movies are being sought as donations.

Don't settle for a preview.
