State Road 9 pavement project to begin

Follow The Republic:

After a delayed start, the $657,948 Indiana Department of Transportation District Pavement Project on State Road 9 — between Columbus and the Shelby County line — begins Thursday morning with asphalt patching at the town of Hope.

Repair operations will continue in the State Road 9 northbound lane through Friday — weather permitting — from Hope to the county line.  Next week, partial-depth asphalt patches will be placed in the State Road 9 southbound lane from the Shelby County line to State Road 46/25th Street northeast of Columbus. Flaggers will be present to route motorists around worksites, Harry Maginity, INDOT spokesman said.

Dave O’Mara, the state’s contractor, will be milling and resurfacing 8.5 miles of north-south highway with a thin asphalt overlay.  The project also calls for construction of ADA-compliant curb ramps at Hope.

A schedule for pouring the concrete ramps will be announced later.
