The Bartholomew County Election Board issued this statement tonight:
The Bartholomew County Election Board expresses its thanks and gratitude to everyone who voted today as well as the hardworking poll Workers who made this day possible. The Voter turnout was extraordinary, probably historic in terms of the number of our citizens voting. This alone reflects well on the state of our
To the many voters who waited patiently to vote - We thank you. We have learned from our poll workers and inspectors that our local voters carefully took their time to weigh the issues on the ballot including the Public Question. This fact and the historic turnout added to the voting time experienced by some voters. - We also note that our voters were not alone as voting lines in other parts of the country were much longer.
A few voters have questioned the location of voting places or the number of machines in polling places. The polling place selection is determined by our County Commissioners. The number of voting machines is a function of the cost of purchasing more machines in a time of very tight budgets.
As an Election Board, we are dedicated to ensuring fair and impartial elections in a manner that is efficient but mindful of allowing each voter to take the time they need to carefully decide the important issues before us.
The Board welcomes any suggestions from the public involving ways to improve the process anci conduct of our local elections. A committee has been estabiished to studv the implementation of vote centers and other avenues for expanding opportunities of voter choice through the availability of new technology.
