Stewart investigation could continue two weeks or more

Follow The Republic:

An investigation into the death of Kevin Ward Jr., the 20-year-old sprint car driver who died after being hit by a sprint car driven by Tony Stewart Saturday night, could continue for at least another two weeks or more, according to Ontario (N.Y.) Sheriff Philip Povero.

In a statement Tuesday, Povero said investigators continue to seek witnesses, gather evidence and develop a racetrack crash reconstruction.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. at a dirt track Lucas Oil Super Sprints race at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park in western New York.

When the investigation is complete, the sheriff's officers will meet with the Ontario county District Attorney's office to discuss the investigation, Povero said.
