A Columbus high school student was injured after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Hawcreek Ave. and 25th Street at 11:49 a.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses at the scene told emergency responders that a group of students were crossing at a marked crosswalk at 11:49 a.m. Wednesday when the traffic light changed. The injured student, who was trying to catch the group of crossing students, crossed behind an east bound vehicle and was struck by a vehicle that was just beginning to accelerate from the traffic light stop.
The condition of the student as well as severity of injuries are unknown at this time. The student was transported to Columbus Regional Health for assessment. School officials, who were also on the scene, confirmed that the family of the student had been contacted.
The drivers of the vehicles were uninjured.
Columbus police and fire departments, as well as hospital EMS, responded to the scene.
