The third annual Not on Our Ice even will be from 9 to 11 p.m. Friday at Hamilton Center Ice Arena.
The event, aimed at raising awareness and providing education about teen-dating violence, is presented by Columbus Icemen/Columbus Youth Hockey and the Lincoln Center Figure Skating Club.
The evening will include:
- A hockey game between the Icemen, hockey players and the figure skaters
- A spin/jump challenge among the skaters
- A hockey skill challenge
- Cupcake taste test
- Information regarding teen-dating violence
Amanda Pittman, a senior at Columbus North High School and a skater with the Lincoln Center Figure Skating Club, has taken on the event as her senior project.
She and other organizers hope that exposing the realities facing young people in unhealthy relationships and providing information to address the issues will arm teens with the skills they need to keep themselves and their friends safe and healthy in dating situations, according to a news release.
“‘Not on Our Ice’ is a commitment and demonstration on the part of our youth athletes to lead by example in encouraging and promoting violence-free dating relationships,” Icemen Coach Rich Gordon said in the release.
