The Republic’s Athletes of the Week

Columbus East senior soccer player Mitch Tabler

(Scored a pair of goals in two victories last week as the Olympians march toward a Hoosier Hills Conference showdown at Jeffersonville on Saturday)

His performance last week:

“We’ve been playing well as a team, getting better and better. It’s always awesome to actually put the ball in the back of the net.”

Do you do anything special to                               prepare?

“As a team, we all go into the locker room and play music, and dance. We shut the door, so no one sees us.”

Your favorite drink:

“Grandma’s homemade lemonade.”

Your favorite food:

“Chinese chicken.”

Your favorite music group:

“Coldplay”

Your favorite book:

“Harry Potter” series

Your favorite class:

“Anatomy. I want to be a physical therapist.”

Your role model:

“My grandpa, Jack Sparks. Every time before a game, he gives me a speech. He always is there.”

Best advice:

“Go hard. Go 100 percent through adversity.”

Your athletic goal:

“To play Division I college soccer.”

If you could travel anywhere:

“Manchester City (England). I would love to go there and watch soccer.”

(Led the Lancers with 32 kills and four blocks in Monday’s five-set win against Waldron and also had 15 kills in a loss to Indianapolis Lutheran and 22 kills in a win against Indiana Deaf)

Her performance last week:

“My performance is based off the performance of my team, and I like for all of us to do well as a group. As a team, it could have been better, but personally, I did my best as a player to help my team out.”

Do you do anything special to                       prepare?

“I always eat Subway before games, and before games, I always listen to rock or rap music.”

Your favorite drink:

“Sweet tea”

Your favorite food:

“Subway turkey breast or tuna.”

Your favorite music group:

“The Secret Life of Bees.”

Your favorite class:

“Business classes at Columbus East”

Your role model:

“Just try your hardest. Things can be tough at the beginning, and you can not have as much skill as others, but the more you work it and the more you work hard, the better you’re going to get at anything.”

Your athletic goal:

“To better my team, and then after that, it’s preparing for college ball.”

If you could travel anywhere:

“Greece. I always see movies with people in Greece, and I think it’s so pretty and I want to see it someday.”
