Tori Jackson, Columbus North senior basketball player

Jackson led the Bull Dogs with 20 points in Friday’s 76-62 sectional semifinal win over Columbus East. He had 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds in Saturday’s 65-56 championship game win over Bloomington South.

His performance last week:

“I stepped up when I needed to and when the team needed me.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“Really, I just think about all the things I can do to help our team get better.”

Megan Heathcote, Columbus North junior gymnast

Heathcote finished seventh in the all-around competition Friday to help the Bull Dogs to the Columbus East Sectional championship. She finished third on the floor, sixth on the vault and 10th on bars and beam.

Her performance last week:

“I’m happy with my performance, and I’m proud of how I did, especially on vault and floor. I think I did pretty good for not being able to warm up on beam.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“Before every meet, me and the other gymnasts go to Panera after school to get bagels and smoothies.”

“Water”

“To not let fear get in the way of your dreams and what you want to do.”

“As a team, I hope we make it to state and place in the top three at state. I’d like to reach a 36.5 in the all-around.”
