MALE

Columbus North junior track and field athlete Andy Carr

Carr won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters Friday to lead the Bull Dogs to a 67-65 win against Columbus East, then won the 3,200 and ran on the winning 4x1,600 relay team Saturday in Brown County’s Talon Relays to help North to the team title.

His performance last week:

“It was a new experience, and I had a lot of fun doing it. I appreciate that my coach trusted me to do that. I had my teammates there to help me and support me, so I’m thankful for them.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“Generally, I do some stretches and listen to some music to get myself in the mood to race. I talk to my friends about how they’re racing so we’re all kind of focused on what we need to do.”

“Kyle Burton (former teammate who now runs at Eastern Kentucky)”

“Work every day so that I’m better than the day before.”

“I’d like our (cross-country) team to get back to where we were a couple years ago and maybe win another state title.”

“I’ve always wanted to see Europe.”

FEMALE

Columbus North senior track and field athlete Kaci Tompkins

Tompkins won the high jump and 100 and 200 meters Friday to lead the Bull Dogs to a 111-21 win against Columbus East, then ran on the winning 4x100 and runner-up 4x200 relay teams Saturday in Brown County’s Talon relays to help North to the team title.

Her performance last week:

“I feel like I did pretty good. My times weren’t bad at all, and I was happy with it.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I eat a good lunch, usually healthy, nothing that’s going to sit too heavy.”

Favorite drink:

“Mountain Berry Powerade”

Favorite food:

“Fried chicken”

Favorite music group:

Role model:

“I think I just look up to all athletes in general that are doing their best.”

“Never give up.”

“I would like to beat my 200 record again and maybe the 100 record and high jump, too.”

“I really want to go to London.”
