Columbus East junior wrestler Jimmy Fisher

(Fisher won the Hoosier Hills’ Conference 170-pound title on Saturday with a 15-3 victory in the championship match against Floyd Central’s Ian Bagwell. Fisher won three times on the day to raise his season record to 20-4)

His performance last week:

“I thought I wrestled well, but I know I have room for improvement. You had to have the right mindset. It was about who was going to step up.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I just mostly get loose and I mentally prepare myself.”

Favorite drink:

“Sweet tea”

Favorite food:

“Ice cream, chocolate”

Favorite music group:

“Hank Williams Jr. I grew up listening to him.”

Favorite book:

“Hatchet” by Gary Paulson

Favorite class:

“Art. My favorite thing to do in school is ceramics.”

Role model:

“My dad, Jef Fisher. For many reasons. Everything that I enjoy doing was stuff that he showed me how to do.”

Best advice:

“Rise to the occasion.”

Athletics goal:

“To be a state place winner”

If you could travel anywhere:

“Australia. I would like to do some exotic hunting.”

FEMALE

Columbus North freshman gymnast Katrina May

(May won the all-around (35.375) in a win against Bloomington North on Monday and was second (35.425) in a win against Columbus East on Wednesday)

Her performance last week:

“I did well, although my beam wasn’t as strong as I could have done. Usually, your first meet is more nerve-wracking, but I felt good.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“The last two meets I have gone out to Panera Bread to eat. I also listen to music.”

Favorite drink:

“I’m a Propel girl.”

Favorite food:

“Spaghetti”

Favorite music group:

“Usher”

Favorite book:

“The Hunger Games”

Favorite class:

“Bio med. I would like to be in the medical field when I get older. We study really cool stuff.”

Role model:

“My mom, Angie May. She works hard at everything she does. She never gives up.”

Best advice:

“My mom says, ‘Always stick with your teammates because they are the people who will get you through things. And always stay on good terms with your coaches.”

Athletics goal:

“I would like to place in the top three in the all-around at state.”

If you could travel anywhere:

“Paris. I want to see the Eiffel Tower, and I hear they have pretty good food.”
