The Republic’s athletes of the week

Follow The Republic:

Male

Hauser sophomore basketball player Rory Thayer

Thayer scored 17 points in Hauser’s first win of the season, an 82-77 victory against Jac-Cen-Del on Saturday.

His performance last week:

“It just felt good to contribute to finally getting that first win that we’ve been working day-in and day-out to get. I guess I had a good game, but the credit has to go to my teammates for their screens and for the passes that came from them when I was open.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“In the locker room, I like to be crazy and energetic. I like to play the stereo loud and crazy. I like to get jacked up for the game.”

Favorite drink:

“Blue Gatorade”

Favorite food:

“Ribs”

Favorite music group:

“Drake”

Favorite book:

“Getting Open: The Unknown Story of Bill Garrett”

Favorite class:

“Advanced P.E. It’s stress free and you can get what you are supposed to get done.”

“Hard work does pay off.”

Athletics goal:

“I want to play college basketball, wherever that might be.”

If you could travel anywhere:

“Jamaica. Just to see all the islands. It seems so calm and peaceful.”

Female

Trinity Lutheran junior basketball player Allison Posey

Posey scored a combined 38 points in wins over Springs Valley, Medora and West Washington to lead the Cougars to a sectional title.

Her performance last week:

“I started out a little bit rough playing Springs Valley, and that kind of hurt my confidence a little bit, but I went into Medora with a good attitude. I started to get into things against West                   Washington.”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I always go to Taco Bell before every game with some of my teammates, and I listen to pump-up music to get myself ready.”
