Thefts from vehicles, vandalism increase

Follow The Republic:

COLUMBUS, Ind. — An increase in thefts from vehicles and vandalism of vehicles have been reported in recent days, police said.

Most of the activity was in the area between Gladstone Avenue to Marr Road and south of 10th Street to Indiana Avenue, Columbus Police Department spokesman Lt. Matt Myers said Saturday. Some activity occurred in downtown area as well, Myers said.

"Complainants are reporting that their vehicles are being broken into and articles of value are being taken, such as purses, electronic equipment and wallets," Myers said.

Other complainants reported damage to their vehicles, such as busted windows and slashing tires, Myers said.

Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the Columbus Police Department by calling 376-2600 or 379-1689.
