Police are searching for three men who robbed an Edinburgh gas station.
Three men walked into Bonkerz Sunoco convenience store, 8733 W. State Road 252, at 8:46 p.m. Saturday and one was carrying a semiautomatic pistol. The store clerk ran out a side door and stopped a passing vehicle, and the driver called police, Edinburgh Deputy Police Chief David Lutz said.
The three men took money, cigarettes, a box of lighters and a rack of sunglasses before leaving the store, according to an Edinburgh Police Department news release.
As they were leaving, police said one shot was fired into the air. The men left and went south on Interstate 65 in a white, late-1990s model Ford or Mercury SUV with a black luggage rack and silver rims, the release said.
Lutz said the gas station robbery was the first he could recall, and the most recent armed robbery in the town was in June, when a man fired a shot and stole drugs from a pharmacy, Lutz said.
The first man was wearing a dark gray sweatshirt, dark jeans and yellow shoes. The second man was wearing a blue winter coat, a dark hat and lime green shoes. The third man was wearing a blue plaid jacket, blue jeans and black shoes, the release said.
All three men were wearing masks and gloves. One man was carrying the gun, and another man also may have been armed, Lutz said.
Police are reviewing surveillance videos from the convenience store and are asking for information from the public. Anyone who may have information about the robbery should contact Edinburgh police at 812-526-2636.
