NORTH VERNON — A Westport man is facing multiple drug counts after a traffic stop near North Vernon.

Adam Fugate’s pickup truck originally was pulled over Friday afternoon on State Road 7 near Country Squire Lakes for an equipment malfunction, according to a Indiana State Police news release.

Trooper Randel Miller became suspicious of the occupants and called in a drug-sniffing dog to check the truck. After the dog’s reaction provided the trooper with probable cause, a search turned up marijuana, numerous pills and a syringe, the release said.

Fugate, 51, was booked into Jennings County Jail on seven counts of possession of a controlled substance. The Decatur County man also is charged with possessing both marijuana and paraphernalia.

His 27-year-old passenger, Brytanny Wooten of Columbus, also was arrested. She was booked into the jail on two counts of possession involving the controlled substance pills and syringe.
