Two arrested in Jennings drug trafficking case

Follow The Republic:

NORTH VERNON — A nearly year-long investigation involving federal, state and local agencies led to the arrests of a North Vernon man and a Butlerville woman allegedly responsible for bringing illegally-obtained prescription drugs into Jennings County on a regular basis.

David E. “Bear” Proffitt, 43, and Brandy L. Caudill, 31, were booked into the Jennings County Jail Tuesday afternoon. Both have been preliminarily charged with dealing and conspiracy to deal in narcotics.

At this time, bond for both suspects has been set at $40,055. However, investigators say more drug-related charges are likely to be filed as additional information is gathered.

The ongoing investigation is mostly focused on large amounts of prescription pain medications being delivered and sold in North Vernon and surrounding areas, said Maj. Jerry Shepherd of the Jennings County Sheriff's Department. Shepherd said more arrests are expected.
