NEW POINT — Two Terre Haute residents were arrested on drug charges after a Friday night traffic stop in Decatur County.
The two were in an eastbound red 2012 Pontiac G6 that was clocked going over 90 miles per hour on Interstate 74 just west of New Point, according to Indiana State Police reports.
When Indiana State Police Trooper Matt Powell pulled over the vehicle at about 7:20 p.m., he detected the odor of marijuana from within the car.
A search of the vehicle and occupants was conducted and revealed marijuana, several pills, drug paraphernalia and nearly $7,800 in cash.
The driver, Brittany M. Doty, 20, was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance.
The passenger, Nicholas W. Hamilton, 21, is facing five drug-related possession charges, as well as dealing in a controlled substance and visiting a common nuisance.
