Two injured in weekend Indiana 46 crash


 


HARTSVILLE, Ind. — Two victims were injured in a weekend accident on Indiana 46 in Decatur County, about three miles east of Hartsville.

Troopers responded to the crash at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Road 850W and Indiana 45.

Rachael D. Barnes, 25, of Greensburg had stopped at the stop sign, heading northbound on Road 850W, according to police reports. As she crossed the state highway, she was hit broadside by a car driven by  John F. Messerschmidt, 49, of Batesville.

Barnes was taken to Decatur County Hospital and then flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with internal injuries.

Messerschmidt was uninjured, but his wife, Deborah L. Messerschmidt, 48, of Batesville, was also taken to Decatur County Hospital and then flown to Methodist Hospital with internal injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Decatur County EMS, Burney and Greensburg Fire Departments assisted the state police at the scene.
