USSSA World Series blasts off with home run derby


 


Andrea Potts chugged a protein shake, lifted some weights and launched some softballs from the batter’s box Thursday.

OK, those first two things never happened.

But Potts, of Elburn, Ill., did flex her guns in the USSSA Home Run Derby, blasting five home runs in the final round. That was good enough to the take the title over hundreds of her fellow competitors, all gathering for the opening ceremonies of the USSSA Fastpitch Softball World Series. The tournament begins today and runs through Saturday, but much of the fun was being had Monday.
