Learn to weave a basket at Donner Center (SEPT 18)
A basket-weaving class will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19 at Donner Center, 739 22nd St.
Instructor Pat Carothers will teach participants to weave and shape a small, round, bean pot-style basket. Participants will use an easy rim technique and insert a wire-bail handle. The base and first few rows will be completed during class.
Those participating should bring:
A sample basket is on display at Donner Center and online.
Cost for the class is $36 and includes materials for the basket.

Library Knitters craft baby gifts for hospital (SEPT 16)
The Library Knitters will meet from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 16 in the art print area of the main level of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St.
Cathi Jones, former owner of Cottage Knits, invites interested knitters and crocheters to drop in and make baby hats for Columbus Regional Hospital. The group meets the third Monday of each month.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own pattern and size-9 needles.
Patterns, yarn and needles are supplied, if needed.
The next month’s meeting will be 5 p.m. Oct. 21.

‘Ancestry and Archaeology’ explored at library (SEPT 19)
A free Community Book Read event about ancestry and archaeology will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Red Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St.
“Ancestry and Archaeology” will be presented by state archaeologist Rick Jones.
In the opening of this year’s Community Book Read selection, “The Bone Garden” by Tess Gerritsen, Julia Hamill discovers a skeleton from the 1800s as she goes to plant a garden.
Learn about the Historic Preservation and Archaeology statute in Indiana and how it protects human remains prior to 1940. Jones will discuss the statute, its complexities and issues. A question-and-answer session will follow.
