Robert W. Vester has been appointed chaplain for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.

Vester, an ordained minister for 24 years, is associate pastor at Westside Community Church in Columbus, according to a media release.

The chaplain offers guidance and assistance to members of the department during crisis situations and can be called upon to provide comfort and counseling during tough times.

“I believe that Robert is a great asset to the men and women of the sheriff’s office and those in our community. We are thankful that he has chosen to volunteer his time with our agency,” Sheriff Mark Gorbett said in the release.

Vester attended Oakland City University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and a master’s in divinity. Vester is working on a Doctor of Ministry degree at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.

Vester and his wife, Gena, have been married 20 years. They have a son, Braden, 11, and a daughter, Rylee, 8.
