A Columbus man wanted on local charges was apprehended Friday outside the east side Walmart on Whitfield Drive.
Virl Dwayne Murray, 43, of 2626 Cold Stream Lane, was arrested on charges of failure to appear in court on an original charge of criminal conversion.
Under Indiana law, a person can be charged with criminal conversion if they knowingly or intentionally exert control of someone else’s property without permission.
A separate arrest charge of possession of methamphetamine was filed after arresting officer Chad Allen Davis found a small amount of the illegal stimulant while searching Murray, Columbus Police Lt. Matt Myers said.
A local resident tipped off police that Murray was at the store early Friday evening. Davis made the arrest at 6:10 p.m., and Murray was booked into the Bartholomew County jail an hour later.
Bartholomew County Prosecutor Bill Nash will determine what, if any, formal charges will be filed. Bond for Murray has been set at $15,000.
