Briefly describe your daily/weekly workout routine.
Group classes Monday and Saturday mornings, group class Monday evenings and an individual workout on Wednesdays. The classes vary with some spinning for aerobic training and various gravity and core exercises for aerobic and strength training.
What inspired you to begin a regular fitness routine?
Nancy Hankins inspired me. She knows how to motivate people to make them want to get healthier. She knows what buttons to push.
Why is it something you have stuck with?
I feel better and now it is a habit.
How do you make time to work out?
I plan around the training time.
When and why did you get serious about fitness?
Throughout my life, I have been into sports or exercise, such as running, swimming or playing tennis. At this stage, I enjoy this regular training and believe that it is more beneficial for me.
Have you lost or gained muscle mass through working out? How much?
I’ve gained a little upper body muscle mass, but I’ve always been slender so any change doesn’t show.
What’s your favorite exercise?
The gravity machine.
What’s the gravity machine?
You can do multiple exercises at various levels of intensity. You sit or lie on a sliding bar and use pulleys to move your body weight.
Any exercises you dread, but do anyway? Why?
Hovers and push-ups because my core is still weak. I do them anyway because I need to do them and the classes around me are doing them.
Do you listen to music while you work out? What’s on your playlist?
I listen sometimes. No special workout songs, though.
Do you follow a special diet? If so, describe it briefly. Do you “cheat” much?
I don’t necessarily follow a regular diet, but I naturally like good foods like vegetables, fruits and lean things. I do like desserts, but I can take them or leave them.
Do you have a favorite fitness moment, for example, when you reached a tough fitness goal or overcame a plateau?
One progressive exercise included 100 push-ups that I was pleased to accomplish.
What do you do to motivate yourself when you just don’t want to work out?
Training at Studio Fit is now a habit and I enjoy the camaraderie of all those who are there.
What advice would you give someone who wants to start working out?
Just get started. Then work into the habit and train with others you enjoy.
What’s a little-known fitness fact about you?
I am probably in better physical shape than anytime in my life, except when I was a runner in high school.
