Briefly describe your daily/weekly workout routine:
Strength training Monday, Wednesday and Friday; cardio workouts Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
What inspired you to begin a regular fitness routine?
A friend of mine inspired me. I had always exercised, but in the privacy of my own home. I was intimidated by the gym. I told her I would go to the gym when I got fit. She replied, “That’s the point of going.” For a solid year we went to the gym six days a week. The improvement I saw in myself is what kept me going.
Why is it something you have stuck with?
I like the way I feel after a good workout. I have also had a lot of medical problems. Working out has given me back strength after being hit by a car in 2007.
How do you make time to work out?
I know that I must take care of myself so that I may take care of my loved ones and friends. You put it on your calendar. It is an appointment. I don’t let anything “come up,” I know this is what I must do to maintain my health. Occasionally, I may have to switch it around, but I know not much is going on at 5 and 6 a.m. I am devoted to that time.
When and why did you get serious about fitness?
I was very serious about working out from 2000 to 2007. I was hit by a car May 17, 2007. I honestly believe I survived because I was in the best shape of my life.
Family: Husband, Pat; daughters Anna, 25; Jenna, 21; Becca, 21; and Amanda, 20; son, Jake, 24
Where you work out: Tipton Lakes Athletic Club
How many hours per week: Six
Have you lost or gained muscle mass through working out? How much?
I have gained muscle mass.
What’s your favorite exercise?
I love chest presses. I never thought that I would develop any upper-body strength. And now I have this incredible upper body strength and the chest presses empower me.
Any exercise you dread, but do anyway? Why?
Turkish get-ups. My hip is weak and this exercise really works my poor weak hip.
Do you listen to music while you work out? What’s on your playlist?
I listen to music when I am on the treadmill or the rowing machine. I honestly like all types of music so it really depends on my mood.
Do you follow a special diet? If so, describe it briefly. Do you “cheat” much?
I try to eat a well-balanced diet. I do cheat occasionally, mainly if we go out to eat.
Do you have a favorite fitness moment, for example, when you reached a tough fitness goal or overcame a plateau?
My favorite fitness moment was when I was ale to complete a spinning class.
What do you do to motivate yourself when you just don’t want to work out?
Think about how bad my personal trainer at TLAC will work me out the next time I’m there.
What’s a little-known fitness fact about you?
I don’t jump. I can bench press 70 pounds, but I don’t jump.
Don't settle for a preview.
