OCCUPATION: Production engineer at Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing
WHY I RUN: In 2010 I started running local 5K events, promoted by the Crossroads of Indiana Race Series, as a way to save money on insurance premiums through an employer-sponsored healthy initiative program. However, running soon became much more than just a way to save a few extra bucks. Running, at times, is a great way for me to relax. Running has also taught me how to challenge myself and push my body and mind to new limits. From 2010-13, I ran 45 events and competed in my first half-marathon.
I completed the 2012 Seymour Half Marathon and the 2013 Mill Race Half Marathon. Instead of running in the 5K event this year, I am focusing on training for the Mill Race Half Marathon. The rigorous training scheduled for half-marathons teaches you how to challenge yourself and push your body physically as well as mentally. The feeling you get when you cross the finish line, completely exhausted and knowing you have given everything you have, is amazing.
