Robert J. Valentine, 74, of Coovert Street, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Robert graduated from high school and then served in the United States Army. After a career in commercial art, he retired from Cosco in 2003.
A member of East Columbus Christian Church, he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Bridgewater officiating. Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Born in Ashland, Ky., Aug. 6, 1938, Mr. Valentine was the son of Leonard Valentine and Viola McClain Louden. He married Carol A. Schoettle Sept. 21, 1963.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel (Jennifer) Valentine of Columbus, IN; a daughter, Andrea May of Columbus, IN; brothers, Charles (Pat) Valentine of Tennessee, Steve (Sue) Valentine of Butler, KY, Rick (Vicky) Valentine of Milford, OH, and Loy (Giselle) Loudin of California; sisters, Kay (Alex) Rivera of Texas; sisters-in-law, Barbara Loudin and Mary Loudin; and grandchildren, Keenan Spencer and Madison Valentine.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dick Loudin, Don Slade, Paul Loudin and Bill Valentine; two infant sisters; and his stepmother, Frances Valentine.
