Robert L. Heaton, 84, of Bloomfield, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at Keepsake Village in Columbus.
Born March 24, 1928, in Bloomfield, he was the son of Floyd and Mabel (Johnson) Heaton.
He retired from NSWC Crane as a tech writer and editor for the Naval Department. He served his country in the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a member of the Bloomfield First Christian Church, a charter member of the Bloomfield Lions Club, charter member of the Singing Hoosiers at Indiana University, Bloomfield American Legion and the Elks Lodge.
Surviving relatives include one brother, Jack Heaton (Judith) of Columbus; one sister, Madge Fulk of Indianapolis; a sister-in-law, Wilma Jean Heaton of Linton; a brother-in-law, Roy Bailey of Bloomington; and 19 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Stella Bailey; a brother, A.M. "Squeak" Heaton; and his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012, at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev. John Matsel officiating, interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or Bloomfield First Christian Church.
