Patricia L. Capes, 74, passed away Sept. 22, 2012, at her residence in Jennings County.

Mrs. Capes was a member of Hayden High School graduating class of 1956. She was homemaker and had many hobbies and interest in life.

She enjoyed crocheting and was a voracious reader. She was an avid sports enthusiast and through the years attended all the sporting events of her sons and grandchildren.

That same love for her family also spilled over into her volunteering as a foster grandparent at Hayden Elementary School.

Patty had the opportunity on one occasion to spend some extended time in Europe. She made two trips to Hawaii to welcome new grandchildren to the family at their births.

Patty was known to many as the “hat lady.”

Born Jan. 29, 1938, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Paul and Esther Simmons Baurley. On May 11, 1957, she married Daniel R. Capes at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Four Corners.

Survivors include her sons, Wilbur L. (Barbara) Capes, Brian J. (Linda) Capes, Kevin R. (Ellen) Capes and Franklin E. (Sondra) Capes; grandchildren, Nicole (Ryan) Capes Curry, Todd Capes, Katelyn Capes, Danny Capes, Matt Capes, Adam Capes, Kasondra Capes, Ryan Capes, Jessica Capes, Jennifer Thibodeaux, Jeremy Capes and Jaclyn Capes; two great-granddaughters, Lily and Sophia Curry; brothers, William (Kathleen) Baurley, Paul “Butch” (Sue) Baurley and Irvin (Mary) Baurley; and sisters, Betty (Ronnie) Wells and Theresa (Tom) Spurr; and many foster grandchildren from Hayden Elementary School, where she volunteered for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Patrice Capes; a grandson, Evan Capes; and a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Ed Megel.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will follow at Hayden Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Diabetes Association.
