Alice Jane Low, 72, of Westport, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012. She was born on April 17, 1940, in Westport, the daughter of Kenneth T. and Martha “Mattie” (Agnew) Low.

She was born and raised in Westport and had lived most of her life here. She graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1957 and received a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in fine arts from Indiana State University. She was a teacher for 30 years having taught at North Vernon High School, Goshen High School and Lewis Cass High School where she taught for 20 years. During her 30-year career, she also coached basketball, volleyball, swimming and track. She had been a rural mail carrier for 5 years for the Westport Post Office and had owned and operated a greenhouse for 5 years.

Miss Low was a member of the Greensburg American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mark's United Methodist Church at Goshen, Indiana.

Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Eunice Low of Westport and Frances Low of Greensburg; 17 nieces and nephews; and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her five brothers, Robert Charles, Icem, Dean, Morris and Royce Low.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012, at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Hospice of South Central Indiana Decatur County or the American Legion Auxiliary of Greensburg.
