Margaret Joan Weinantz, 86, of Columbus, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Born Feb. 3, 1926, in Indianapolis to C. Dan and Louise Crump Giddens, she worked for 15 years in county government, two years for the city, three years for Weinantz Food & Spirits and 10 years for Dorothy’s Dress Shop.
She was a member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Historical Society, Senior Center, Democratic Ladies League and a Columbus Regional Hospital Volunteer.
She was a graduate of Columbus High School 1943, and attended Indiana University for one year.
She enjoyed reading mysteries, work puzzles, loved to travel and do crafts. Plus, she enjoyed spending time with the family and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are sons Rick and Randy Weinantz of Edinburgh; daughter, Connie (Jim) Jessee of Hope; grandchildren, Ben (Nellie Baxter) Weinantz of Boulder, Colo.; Kevin (Tara) Jessee of Edinburgh; Melinda (Brian) Barriger of Hope; great-grandchildren, Rilee, Regann Jessee, Maelea, Addyson, Jacob, Nathan and Ryan Barriger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Giddens; a sister, Patty Gwinnup; and great-grandfather John S. Crump, who started the Crump Theatre.
Funeral service will be ay 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, with at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Brian Barriger officiating. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday.
Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana. Online condolences may be extended to the family at myers-reed.com.
