Frances M. Douglas, 86, a resident of Four Seasons Residential Center in Columbus, died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, October 4, 2012 at her residence. Frances was born May 16, 1926 in Gary, West Virginia, the daughter of the late John and Frances Herlovich Novince. Frances lived in Dearborn, Mich. for most of her adult life and lived with her daughter, Kathleen Leason, in Columbus, for the last eight years.
Frances valued her family above all else, and was most proud and fulfilled in her roles as wife and mother. She worked alongside her husband, Melvin, in the Dairy Queen business for over 25 years, following a secretarial career at Zenith Corporation in Detroit. Frances faced many challenges and crises in her life, but always managed to rise above her troubles and put on a happy face. She enjoyed the company of her friends in the Red Hot Chili Peppers Red Hat Society and greeting at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, where she was a member.
Frances married Melvin Leason, who predeceased her in 1979. She later married Wilburn Herschel Douglas, who predeceased her in 2000. She was also preceded in death by all six of her siblings. Frances is survived by her children, Kenneth (Mary Daley) Leason, Kathleen (Barry Kastner) Leason, Kevin (Heike) Leason, Kim (Lori) Leason, and Kerry (Lynette Widmeyer) Leason; and five grandchildren, Becca and Lauren Kastner, and Alex, Michelle, and Rose Leason.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be conducted at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Father Clem Davis officiating.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral mass at the church on Thursday.
Private burial will be in St. Hedwig Cemetery & Mausoleum in Dearborn Heights, Mich. on Friday, October 12, 2012.
Memorial contributions may be made to Just Friends Adult Daycare in Columbus or to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Myers-Reed Chapel.
