Virda Marie Schooler Rathsman, 87, of Columbus, passed from this life at 2:25 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2012, at Silver Oaks Health Campus.

Mrs. Rathsman worked for Civil Service as an office clerk at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Marie enjoyed membership at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Mill Race Center, 55 Plus Club and C.R.E.A.K. Club.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Rev. Mark R. Teike officiating.

Family and friends may call from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church Find Us Faithful Fund, Hospice of South Central Indiana or the American Heart Association.

Born in Harrison County, Indiana, September 25, 1925, Marie was the daughter of Willie C. and Elizabeth F. Taylor Schooler. She married Fred J. Rathsman August 20, 1955. He preceded her in death July 29, 1994.

Survivors include a sister, Irene Norton of New Albany; a brother, Pastor Eugene (Janet) Schooler of Vancouver, WA; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rathsman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Helen Foreman and Rosa Paulsen; and brothers, J.L., William and Lawrence Schooler.
