Rickey Dale “Rick” Buttz, 61, of Nineveh, passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at his home, after arriving in the United States from his residence in Hong Kong the previous day.
Rick was born Sept. 22, 1948, in Indianapolis. Rick served as an officer in the U.S. Army from 1969 through 1972. He received his Associate of Science degree in aviation maintenance from Vincennes University and obtained his FAA pilot certification in 1965 and his ground and flight instructor’s license in 1972. Rick made a career of his passion for flying as a corporate pilot for Melvin Simon and Associates for 34 years and was employed by Jet Aviation in Hong Kong the past three years. Rick most enjoyed his family and friends.
His hobbies included flying, travel, scuba diving, boating, fishing and photography. In typical fashion, Rick was also a scuba diving instructor and charter boat captain.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Karen Sue Buttz; two children, Shelly Nile of Rochester and Brian Buttz of Indianapolis; two stepchildren, Kathyleen Denk of Avon and Anthony Volpp of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Lindsay and Megan Nile, Olivia and Jordyn Buttz, Kaleigh Volpp, Kyle Denk, Charlie and Alexander Whitehead and Caleb Volpp; a brother, Larry Buttz of Indianapolis; his mother-in-law, Kathyleen Klein of Edgewater, Fla.; and a sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly and John Yaney II of Edgewater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Ira Buttz.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, State Road 135 and Olive Branch Road.Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
