William F. “Bill” Woodward, 77, of Columbus, died at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Owensboro, Ky., April 5, 1935, the son of Fred Douglas and Hattie C. Head Woodward. He married Joan Towery on December 18, 1970, in Owensboro, Ky., and she survives. They renewed their vows in 2001.
He had retired from IBM in 1993 in Columbus after 30 years of service, where he had served as an engineer. He and his wife owned and operated B & J Tax Service since 1988, where he was an enrolled agent.
He obtained his engineering degree at University of Kentucky, Henderson Campus, was a member of American Legion Post #24, enjoyed bowling, fishing, recycling and joking around. Bill was a most kind and generous man. He attended St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. He served 10 yeas in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of Columbus; a son, Bill, Jr. (companion Trish) Woodward of Plymouth; a daughter, Anita (Jay) Nielsen of Fredericksburg, Va.; sons, Doug (companion Tina) Woodward of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeff (Sandi) Woodward of Edgemont, S.D.; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Fulkerson of Bowling Green, Ky., and a sister-in-law Mary Burton of Columbus; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Ramonda) Towery and Mike Towery, both of Owensboro, Ky.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons; and brothers- and sisters-in-law.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street with Fr. Marty Peter officiating.
Calling will be from 2 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation is planned.
