Harold E. Snyder, 87, of 14th Street, passed from this life at 11:36 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Miller's Merry Manor in Hope.
Mr. Snyder was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a First Class Gunners Mate on the USS Dale in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged February 17, 1946.
Mr. Snyder a member of the local Carpenters Union and served as a superintendent at Dunlap & Company Inc., retiring after 43 years of service.
Harold was a member of First Christian Church where he had served on the Building and Grounds Committee. He was also a member of the Mill Race Center and the 55 Plus Club.
He was an avid mall walker and he enjoyed his family and friends, music and dancing. Harold was a true people person and always had a passion for socializing.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 2 p.m. until service time Sunday.
Full military rites will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard at the funeral home.
Inurnment will take place at Garland Brook Mausoleum at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Columbus March 8, 1925, Mr. Snyder was the son of John and Martha Oberlese Snyder.
Survivors include his sons, Brian Snyder, and his companion, Tina Petro, of Columbus, and Baron Snyder of Columbus; grandchildren, Casey and Kiana Snyder, both of Columbus; a brother, Bill (Phyllis) Snyder of Columbus; a sister, Betty Roupp of Taylorsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his parents.
